So Far So Good
My year has started and I am exploring the strange world of choirs. I ordered my first batch of music earlier this week. That stuff is expensinve! It's almost $2.00 per part for 50 kids! I am really thinking hard about the quality of literature for these singers. If you were in choir, especially ages 11-14, let me know what your favorite piece was to sing. I need some kid-grabbing great music. By the way, my range is now low F to top-line F. I think that's pretty good for never singing before.

I wasn't in choir quite that young, but I really loved madrigals right from the start. Especially "Weep, O Mine Eyes," which is simple and beautiful. I'll try to think of some others for you.
Spend some quality time here to find free music for your choristers: http://www.cpdl.org/
Found this at the Choral Public Domain Library.
Oh come on. Even I used to be able to get an octave higher than that, and I'm an alto.
An octave higher than top-line F? Seriously, Mom?? I think that claim requires some evidence. I can barely sing an octave higher than top-line F, and I think my range is a bit higher than yours.
HAHAHA! This is great! What are your favorite warm-ups?
Kelly, your mom was a Coluratura not an alto. I on the other hand was a lyric. This was odd because one year she was the soprano and I was the alto, and the next year we switched! The funny thing was when we sang duets for Mrs. Peircy, she couldn't tell us apart. Can you do spirituals or religious (old) music Heather? "The Irish Blessing " is simple and beautiful. "I'm glad I am a Shaker" is fun to sing. How about Bach's "Two Part Invention" in the jazz arrangement. Lot's of fun and sort of familiar. I know you'll find cool stuff.I actually think I have the madrigal music for some pieces stored away. I will try to did them out and bring them next week end.
I am looking for a lower arrangement of The Irish Blessing. It is a little high for Middle School. This is something that I am struggling with. F is way too high for these girls to sing comfortably. They sound squeaky. I keep telling them to relax their shoulders and their necks, but they are still screechy.
